Welcome to the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University to visit Xi'an Shijia Motor Company.
The School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering is one of the oldest and most distinctive colleges at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The development of the school has always been closely linked to the fate of the country and the nation, steadfastly advancing through the currents of time. The predecessor of the school can be traced back to 1907 when Jiao Tong University pioneered the establishment of a Railway Department in China, which was renamed the Civil Engineering Department six years later. In 1943, the Naval Architecture Department was established; in 1958, the Department of Engineering Mechanics was founded; in 1985, the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture was re-established; in 1992, the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics was formed; in 1997, the International Shipping Department was established, along with the School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering; and in 2003, the School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering merged with the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics to form the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering.
Over more than a century, the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering has persevered diligently, adhering to the school motto of "Remembering Our Sources, Loving Our Country, and Honoring Our Alma Mater," and actively leveraging its disciplinary advantages. It has cultivated a large number of technological elites, industry talents, and educational leaders for the country and society, including Huang Xuhua, a recipient of the "Medal of the Republic" and the country's highest scientific and technological award, contributing to the revitalization of the nation.
The school encompasses four disciplines: Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Mechanics, Civil Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. Among them, there are 2 disciplines included in the Ministry of Education's "Double First-Class" construction initiative, 2 national key disciplines at the first-level discipline, 3 first-level disciplines authorized to award doctoral degrees, 2 professional doctoral degree authorization points in engineering, and 3 postdoctoral mobile stations. Both "Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering" and "Civil Engineering" are selected as national "Double First-Class" disciplines. The Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering discipline has ranked first in the world for seven consecutive years in the 2023 Soft Science World's Best Disciplines Ranking and has been rated first or "A+" in previous discipline evaluations. The Mechanics discipline is one of the most comprehensive departments of mechanics in Chinese universities, with its overall strength ranking among the top in China. The Civil Engineering discipline ranks 36th globally in the 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject, third in China. The Transportation Engineering discipline has consistently ranked in the top ten in the Soft Science World's Best Disciplines Ranking for multiple years.
